Junior Software Tester

Your role

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Junior Software Tester to join our team in Nairobi! As a Software Tester at our company, you will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects and develop your career. This is a part time position but our plan is that it will grow into a full time position in the future.

You will be involved in the quality assurance stage of software development and deployment and conduct automated and manual tests to ensure the software quality. As a tester your work consists in making sure that software created by our developers is fit for purpose and that any bugs or issues are removed within a product before it gets deployed to everyday users. Your role is integral to the creation of software systems and you need to be familiar with programming and software development practices.

Responsibilities and tasks:

  • Detect and track software defects and inconsistencies
  • Meet with system users to understand the scope of projects
  • Work closely with software developers and other team members
  • Identify and review business requirements
  • Analyzing users stories and use cases for validity and feasibility
  • Test planning
  • Carry out mainly functional testing (unit testing, regression testing, etc.) through manual and automated tests
  • Write and execute test scripts
  • Maintain a detailed knowledge of testing procedures, processes and tools used within the company
  • Test in different environments including web and mobile
  • Write bug reports
  • Create and review system documentation
  • Communicate findings to technical and non-technical colleagues or from
    customer

Customer assignments

Native Coders is an IT consulting company working mainly with customers in Sweden. In the role as software tester you normally work with software developers also located in Nairobi and Project Managers based in Sweden.

You will most likely work on multiple projects at one time.

Skills

Software testers often have a degree in computer science or IT. You have knowledge of testing processes, methodologies, agile principles for quality assurance and have experience from testing software and Jira. Another key ability is to be able to work independently and with steady progress towards milestones.

Furthermore you will need to have:

  • Competent technical skills
  • The ability to work in a team and individually
  • Organisational skills with the capability of working towards tight deadlines
  • A passion for working with technology

Experience

  • Minimum one year of proven experience as a Software Tester or similar role is required
  • Well oriented in Jira and other software used for testing (e.g. qTest, Zephyr)
  • Good if you also have worked with software development

Extra awesome

  • Knowledge of Test Automation tools (e.g. Selenium WebDriver, Appium, Visual Studio, etc.) and able to design and develop automation scripts when needed
